Preparation
Getting ready for your visit
A short, practical checklist so your appointment runs smoothly and we can capture the most accurate baseline of your skin.
Day-of checklist
- Mole mapping does not replace a thorough skin exam by an experienced provider
- Mole mapping is an additional service that can help the provider to track lesions over time. Follow-up photography is important for comparison
- Do not wear make-up — this includes foundation, lipstick, eyeliner, and eyeshadow
- Do not wear nail polish
- Do not wear black socks or sandals. They can leave stains or lint on your skin, which can be mistaken for moles/nevi
- Shave or clip body hair so that your moles can be seen
- Bring a hair band to tie your hair on top of your head
- Do not use a self-tanner for 6 weeks prior to your imaging session
- Remove your jewelry — preferably leave it at home
- Have your mole mapping consent form signed before your visit
Privacy
Your imaging session is conducted in a private examination room. All images are stored confidentially as part of your medical record.
